This month I traveled to the AGO to see “Painting Set Free”, an exhibition of the work by J.W Turner (1775-1851). His sketchbooks were astonishing! They are the greatest treasure of the Tate Gallery. He made thousands of sketches and they are sublime. It was a complete surprise to me and very inspiring. Turner worked in watercolor and oil , the sketchbooks well illustrate the transition. They are the key to his signature paintings.
