My approach to my artwork never changes. It’s very personal, mostly about how the day and the symbols of seasons affect me. This sketch was painted on the spot on a dreary morning in New Brunswick. No plein air easel for me! The front seat of a car is a most excellent studio space. I lost most of my pencils under the seat so I had to execute it with just the brush. Good thing too. It’s super loose, no fooling around with the greens. I had to work fast to get the sky. I am in love with painting outdoors right now, but it’s tricky. I need to feel safe, quiet and comfortable, so not every location works. It’s a challenge just to find a place to pull over. Lots of views on busy roads, but where to park? Finding this kind of comfort in the big city will be a great challenge. This sketch reminds me of how lucky I am to have found New Brunswick and breathe clean air!
