This post is about watercolor. I came to watercolor a year ago because country folk love it and academics detest it. Trying to take it out of frumpy dumpy land has been my focus. It has been a hard shadow to shake. That being said, the properties I love are brilliant transparent color and little clean up.
When I ran the gallery in Calgary, watercolor fell so far out of vogue we couldn’t bring any in. At art college it was verboten …. . the devil! Talk about loving the underdog.
I will say this …watercolor loves the camera ….. oh she glows. I have found the paper is important, not so much the paint. I use Strathmore and I love hot press. It’s way more fun. I find the heavy rough paper dulls the work.
This is all new to me and each week brings a new victory/disaster.
